Back Home Again

Hi Again,
Well it has been an eventful week.  I will start with some photos and explain the rest as I go.
Makenna - Sleeping Beauty

Anika still enjoys holding her little sister - we think this is a good sign that she is adjusting well to having her sister, Makenna join our family.  Let's hope it continues:)
My Auntie Debby, Cousin Jackie and her little guy Aidan visited last Tuesday.

Anika enjoyed following Aidan around during his visit

That evening our good friends Teresa and Dave came by with their boys, Davie and Christopher.  Yes, they just got back from Hawaii!

It was a fun week so far.  Then Wednesday morning Makenna slept for a long time after her early morning feed which is normal but didn't seem interested in eating after many hours had gone by which is not normal.  She just wanted to sleep and then her colour started to fade and she looked a little grey.  I rushed her to emergency and as soon as the doctor put the stethoscope on her she cried and her colour came back but the doctor said her cold had gone into her chest and this is causing her oxygen level to go down so she would have to stay in the hospital.   They hooked her up to oxygen to keep her levels normal.  She did well in the hospital but it was very stressful that day.  She had oxygen going into her nose, sensors for heart rate and breathing rate on her front and an oxygen meter thing on her foot and she had an IV in her hand giving her antibiotics in case her chest thing was bacterial.  The poor little thing, she had so many wires etc.  The chest thing turned out not to be bacterial (just a cold virus) so she got to get rid of the IV a couple days later.  Makenna had to stay in the hospital until she could maintain her oxygen to a certain level for 24hours without any supplemental oxygen through her nose tube.  Well that took 5 days.  So we just got home today.  I (Jennifer) spent the whole time in the hospital with her and it was actually a great bonding time.  I didn't have to cook or clean, make bottles, wash bottles, do laundry, grocery shop, and have my attention pulled in other directions.  Anika and Ken visited every day and the rest of the time I spent with Makenna.  After the first night, the hospital visit was actually not that stressful.  We are just so happy that Makenna is better now and we can continue enjoying her at home.
Here is a video of Makenna enjoying a soother at the hospital

My Mom and Dad finally met Makenna when they came home from Mexico on Sunday and here is a photo of my Mom feeding Makenna.

Here is a photo of Makenna after her bath.  Her hair tends to stand on end after baths so we had to get a photo:)

Well, that is all for now.  We are just happy that everything is ok now.  Makenna will have her cold for a while but the worst part of the cold is over.  I am sure this is not the first cold that her big sis will give her but lets hope it will be a long time before that happens again!
We hope you are doing well and I will blog again soon.
Love Jennifer (and Ken, Anika and Makenna) :)
